The indomitable Mr. Sant was never elected. Indeed he had the distinction of being the only candidate in Maltese history to receive zero votes in an election (in the First District in 1987) and he attracted an average of 7.6 first-preference votes per candidacy. Spiru Sant died in 2002.“
