President Roosevelt refused to congratulate me in person, by letter, or phone because I was treated better in Germany than in the country I call home. In Berlin, I could sit wherever I wanted on a bus, I could go wherever I want. I wasn’t discriminated. I could stay in any hotel or eat at my choice of restaurants.
