  • President Barack Obama today declared ‘America’s fight for civil rights ‘is not yet ended, but we’re getting closer’
  • Commemorated 50th anniversary of march in Selma, Alabama, that paved the way for the 1965 Voting Rights Act 
  • Honored ‘brave’ marchers and encouraged young Americans to carry forward the spirit of Civil Rights Movement
  • Thousands of people had gathered to hear Obama, first black US president, give speech at Edmund Pettus Bridge
  • He was joined by his wife, First Lady Michelle, daughters Sasha and Malia, and around 100 members of Congress
  • Ex-President George W. Bush and Congressman John Lewis – who was injured in march – also pictured at bridge
  • After speech, Obama joined marchers in a re-enactment of the historic bridge walk, with sleeves rolled up in sun
  • The group sang as they walked; at one point, Bush looked at Obama and joked: ‘Tell him he’s walking too fast’
